Dr. Sheila Singh, professor, neurosurgeon, scientist, director of Centre for Discovery in Cancer Research at McMaster University; Senior Canada Research Chair in Human Cancer Stem Cell Biology:

“Dr. Sheila Singh is professor of surgery and biochemistry, senior pediatric neurosurgeon at McMaster Children’s Hospital, Division Head of Neurosurgery at Hamilton Health Sciences, and director of the Centre for Discovery in Cancer Research (CDCR) at McMaster University. She holds a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Human Brain Cancer Stem Cell Biology, and is the founding director of the McMaster Surgeon Scientist Program.

 

Dr. Singh’s lab applies a developmental neurobiology framework to the study of brain tumorigenesis.”

McMaster Professors Elected as Fellows of Canadian Academy of Health Sciences

Cindy Graham Makes Unprecedented Donation to Glioblastoma Research

Cindy was diagnosed with glioblastoma in 2020, an incurable brain cancer. She lived 20 months with her diagnosis, more than the median patient of 15 months. Cindy and her husband Tom helped establish a new cancer research goal, creating the first comprehensive biologic and genetic map of glioblastoma at multiple time points. Her generous donation provides hope for the future of treating patients with GBM.

Brian Van Adel, McMaster Neurosurgery Faculty Physician

A Stroke While Pregnant

Slurred speech, facial droop, and weakness on one side are fundamental stroke symptoms every physician recognizes. Dr. Van Adel was able to perform an Endovascular Thrombectomy for Stephanie to reopen her vessel and prevent a devastating neurologic injury - one of the first cases in the world of safely performing this procedure in a patient who is six months pregnant.
